Mt
Coot-tha, 1927. Foreground: Duke and Duchess of York. This photo belongs to Barbara Lovelock. She feels her father bought it from Mrs Johnson's shop, Cnr Fredrick St and Milton Road, 1927. Mrs Johnson took the photo. Apparently everyone was shocked that Mrs Johnson had the audacity to ask the then Duke and Duchess of York (Queen Mother, who recently passed away) to pose for the photo. The story goes that Mrs Johnson then had the photo duplicated and sold them in her shop. PRUE FIRTH WRITES: "I had a quick look at the website, and realised my parents have that photo of the Duke and Duchess of York at Mt Coot-tha. The small person in the background (who looks like a child to me) is apparently my very tiny great-aunt Miss Mabel Acheson (my father's mother's sister). She told my parents that they were just there by chance that day when the photo was taken. Small world, aint it?!" Material may not be reproduced without permission from the owner. Home
